Atkinson to Build I-90 Keechelus Dam to Stampede Pass

HYAK, Wash. Washington State Department of Transportation has awarded Atkinson a $73 million contract to reconstruct a 2.5-mile portion of I-90 on the Snoqualmie Pass.

Atkinson will widen the existing four-lane highway to six lanes and will construct an illuminated chain-up area on the westbound lanes. The project scope also includes the construction of new bridges at Unnamed Creek, Price Creek, and Noble Creek, as well as a wildlife overcrossing at the Price Creek Rest Area vicinity. Each bridge will be equipped with new culverts to carry stormwater. The team will install hydraulic connectivity zones at two locations, concrete barriers and guardrails, intelligent transportation systems, and a mitigation site at Price Creek.

The project extends from the east end of the I-90 Snowshed to the Keechelus Dam Phase 1C project, also being built by Atkinson under a separate contract. The ability to manage one comprehensive traffic control program for both projects provided Atkinson with a competitive advantage, and ultimately the contract award.

Construction is underway and substantial completion is scheduled for October 2019.
