Description
The P-1 Pressure Tunnel is a 16 ft. diameter, welded steel lined tunnel approximately 2,200 feet long that connects the P-1 Pumping Plant with the I/O Tower at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California Eastside Reservoir Project, now called Diamond Valley Lake.
The P-1 Pressure tunnel is the primary structure used for moving water into or out of the water storage reservoir and is designed to handle flows of 2,100 cubic ft. per second. Details on the project involved: excavating the west portal, rock bolting, fiber reinforced shotcreting, steel sets, steel encased inner conduit, backfill concrete, and cement mortar lining.
