Description
This project will help fix one of Washington's most notorious bottlenecks. Construction of additional lanes will make more room for more cars on this busy stretch of I-5. Other improvements included in this project will enhance safety, reduce merging, and move traffic more smoothly.
This project includes:
- Adding six miles of northbound carpool lanes from Highway 526 to U.S. 2.
- Adding 4.6 miles of southbound carpool lanes from Marine View Drive to Highway 526 and a northbound and southbound lane from 41st Street to U.S. 2.
- Building a new right-hand exit to Broadway Avenue and modifying the left-hand only exit for carpool, vanpools and buses only.
- Improving freeway on- and off-ramps.
- Widening 19 bridges and replacing 2.
- Adding noise walls at certain locations and holding and filtering dirty water that runs off the freeway.
