Atkinson delivered this project in a salt mine located 1,700 feet below Lake Erie. The Surge Bin was 200 feet long, 30 feet wide, and 20 feet deep. The project included removing old steel structures, conveyor belt frames, walkways, two large hoppers, and the salt that filled the bin.

The steel was cut using oxygen and acetylene torches and then removed from the bin. Seven monorails were installed along the roof. Atkinson crews used air tuggers to move steel and lower a large truss. The steel and salt were removed so that Cargill could use the space for future crushing operations in the mine.
