Atkinson Breaks Ground on New I-10 HOV Lanes Improvements Project
March 15, 2016
Covina, CA - Atkinson recently broke ground on the $172 million I-10 High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) Lane Improvements project.
Atkinson will construct 5.5 miles of HOV Lane improvements from West Covina to the I-10/SR 57 Interchange in six stages. The project scope includes widening the existing freeway to build new HOV lanes, widening 10 existing bridges, realigning existing ramps and constructing 3.5 miles of retaining walls.
To make way for the roadway improvements, the team will excavate 550,000 cubic yards (CY) of soil of which, 220,000 CY will be reused on site and the balanced hauled off site to designated disposal locations. Additional work includes drainage, concrete barrier, grading, concrete and asphalt paving, electrical, lowering city streets, and landscaping – with Atkinson self-performing 60 percent of the work on this highly-traveled urban freeway.
Project completion is scheduled for August 2019.
