Leeville Shafts was designed to recover gold deposits in proximity to an open-pit mining operation. This project involved the excavation and concrete lining of two separate shafts: a 22-foot-diameter production shaft spanning 1,900 linear feet and a 20-foot-diameter ventilation shaft extending 1,650 linear feet. Atkinson excavated both tunnels using drill and blast techniques. Throughout the project, a combination of cover and contact grouting techniques controlled groundwater inflow.
In addition to excavation work, Atkinson installed various surface facilities, performed head frame and collar installations, and set up temporary facilities and sinking plants for both shafts.
