SR 167 to SR 509 New Expressway Underway

The SR 167/I-5 to SR 509 New Expressway project constructs a new 2-mile highway segment connecting I-5 in Fife, WA, to SR 509 near the Port of Tacoma. Work includes a new diverging diamond interchange (DDI) at I-5, new interchanges at 54th Avenue East and SR 509, along with a shared-use path. The project also includes the demolition of the 70th Avenue bridge over I-5. A key component of the project is a 176-acre riparian restoration program (RRP), strategically designed to meet environmental regulatory requirements and contribute to long-term benefits for fish and wildlife habitats. The RRP encompasses extensive wetland and stream mitigation, the construction of 20 new bridges, and the movement of over one million cubic yards of imported material.
